About Telepsychiatry
Telepsychiatry is a promising and exciting new way to obtain high quality, HIPAA compliant psychiatric care through the use of videoconferencing. Previously, video conferencing was used as a way to provide psychiatry services primarily to patients at hospitals, prisons, veterans' health care facilities and rural clinics.
However, online therapy has become increasingly popular in recent years. Some patients prefer the convenience of not having to travel for an in-person office visit, while others like the flexibility to schedule therapy sessions as the need arises. Several studies have found that patient satisfaction with face-to-face interaction and online therapy is statistically similar.
As of 2011 telepsychiatry also known as e-psychiatry, has been the most successful of all the telemedicine applications to date, as it typically only needs adequate conferencing and/or telephony service between the patient and the psychiatrist. Also contributing to it's success are sky-rocketing US healthcare costs and the national shortage of psychiatrists. In the U.S., Medicare and the various state Medicaids plans, as well as nearly all private health insurance providers, provide payments for some telepsychiatry services.
Telepsychiatry is growing at a much faster rate than all of its other telemedicine counter parts and it is reported that it will grow by an estimated 20% each year. This will be a must have for any psychiatry practice operating inside the US. Be a part of this exciting and new application with us here at e-Psychiatry.com.
